Lieb, Renn in top 15 after Day 1 in Class 1

SPRINGFIELD — Calvary Lutheran senior Jonathan Lieb is in position for a second straight state medal following Monday’s first round of the Class 1 boys golf state championships at Rivercut Golf Course.

Lieb is in a seven-way tie for ninth place after carding an 11-over 83 in his opening round. Aside from shooting a nine on the 10th hole, Lieb was steady in his round, posting 10 pars and seven bogeys.

The top 15 individuals receive allstate honors.

Eugene senior Tyler Renn is also near the top of the leaderboard, as he shot a 7-over 79 in the first round. Renn is tied for third place, along with Cole Camp’s Matthew Bright, out of 83 individuals.

Renn birdied the par-4 13th hole and

also had 10 pars, six bogeys and one double-bogey in his round.

Eugene is fifth in the team standings with a 367, followed by Linn with a 368. Cole Camp is in first place with a 335, Marceline is second with a 346, Westran is third with a 353 and Salisbury is fourth with a 361.

The top four teams each receive state trophies following the conclusion of today’s second round, which begins at 8 a.m.

Linn’s Jett Maasen and Eugene’s Caden Anderson are tied for 16th place, each posting a 12-over 84 in their first rounds.

Maasen birdied the par-4 fourth hole and added four pars and 13 bogeys. Anderson had a birdie on the par-5 fifth hole and finished with 10 pars, four bogeys and two double-bogeys.

Linn’s Connor McDaniels and Britt Winslow each carded a 90 in their first round and are tied for 29th place.

McDaniels had five pars and nine bogeys in his first round, while Winslow had eight pars and three bogeys.

Eugene’s Javan Steinhardt was next in the individual standings with a 94, which is tied for 40th. Steinhardt birdied the par-3 17th hole and added three pars and eight bogeys.

Linn’s Rhett Robinson is tied for 70th with a 104, posting two pars and six bogeys in his round.

Eugene’s Chris Bradley rounded out the team score with a 110, which is tied for 76th. Bradley had three pars and two bogeys in his round.

Columbia Independent’s Joseph Devoy and Salisbury’s Elliott Hayward are tied for first place in the individual standings, as each shot a 6-over 78 in the first round.

Capital City’s Blake Meredith is in all-state contention following Monday’s first round of the Class 4 boys golf state championships at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield.

Meredith is tied for 18th place out of 83 golfers after posting a 6-over 78 in his opening round.

Meredith posted four birdies in his round — the fifth, seventh, 11th and 18th holes, all par 5s. He added five pars, eight bogeys and one double-bogey.

Capital City’s other state qualifier, Noah Coleman, is tied for 67th after shooting an 87. Coleman had five pars, 11 bogeys and two double-bogeys in his round.

Bolivar’s Aiden Asby is in the lead after shooting a 1-over 73 in the first round.

Rolla is atop the team standings with a 321. Lutheran South is next with a 325, followed by Westminster Christian with a 328. Glendale and Grain Valley are tied for fourth with 330s.
