California holds lead in Class 2 standings

COLUMBIA — The California Pintos are in first place after Monday’s first round of the Class 2 boys golf state championships at Columbia Country Club.

Three of the Pintos’ four golfers are in the top 15 of the individual standings, as California recorded a team score of 332.

Barstow is second with a 334, followed by Greenwood in third with a 365 and St. Michael the Archangel in fourth with a 367.

California has two top-four state finishes in program history, placing third in 2006 and fourth in 2018.

Will Boyd led the Pintos by shooting a 7-over-78 in his first round, tying him for fourth place with Kal Kolar of Maplewood-Richmond Heights. Boyd birdied the par-4 17th hole and added 10 pars, six pars and a double-bogey.

Enoch Dunnaway was next for California with an 11-over 82, which is tied for seventh place. Dunnaway birdied

the par-4 third hole and finished his round with five pars and 12 bogeys.

Ayden Howard was right behind with a 12-over 83, putting him in ninth place out of 81 individuals. Howard also birdied the 17th hole and added seven pars, seven bogeys and three double-bogeys.

Jackson Hackett rounded out California’s team score with an 89, which is tied for 32nd place. Hackett had four pars, 11 bogeys, two double-bogeys and one triple-bogey.

Hermann’s Trigg Lindahl leads the individual standings by five strokes after shooting a 1-under 70 in his opening round.

The state tournament concludes with today’s second round, which starts at 8 a.m. The top 15 individuals receive all-state honors and the top four teams earn state trophies.
