BCB launches next phase of fundraising

Having successfully raised enough money to purchase its building, Building Community Bridges on Monday announced phase two of its capital campaign, now aimed at renovating the structure at 213 E. Ashley St.

The nonprofit has a goal of raising $100,000 ($50,000 of which is already in place) to begin much-needed repairs and renovations. The former warehouse is in the midst of a conversion to a community enrichment center.

Needed improvements include:

• Extension of the second floor to house the after-school (and adult education) tutoring program and business hub.

• Creation of the community kitchen for summer lunch programs and holiday meals.

• Renovation of restrooms to bring them into Americans with Disabilities Act compliance.

• Addition of storage for food pantry supplies.

• Updating the facility, including enhanced entrances and exits.

• Work on portions of the building that are in disrepair.

Volunteers staff BCB, which is home to a twice-weekly food pantry, a boxing gym, after-school tutoring, a dance team, modeling classes, music instruction, women’s programs and a business hub.

The nonprofit hosts multiple outreach activities, including community days, summer lunch programs, school supply and backpack giveaways, Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas toy drives and Easter basket distribution.

“We’re bringing healing to the community as we uplift and encourage people who feel let behind,” founder Douglas Wright III said in a news release. “Walking alongside these individuals, BCB is giving hope to those trying to survive and helping bring their dreams to reality.”

Many have walked the same road, he continued. And, they understand they can’t do the work alone.

Donations to the Changing Lives Capital Campaign can be made online atwww.br id gesjc mo 1. org or by mailing a check to BCB, 213 E. Ashley St., Jefferson City, MO 65101.
