Stakeholders asked to join recovery coalition

A local nonprofit is spearheading an effort to create an infrastructure within Jefferson City aimed at effectively addressing substance use problems within the community.

Landmark Recovery Center will host two informational meetings to discuss the launch of the Capital City Recovery Coalition.

The center is inviting anyone interested in the creation of the coalition to attend either of two discussions, 11 a.m. or 6 p.m. June 2 at 204 Metro Drive. The new coalition would be an affiliate of the Missouri Coalition of Recovery Support Providers, which already has five similar coalitions in Missouri.

The coalition’s website can be found at mcrsp.org.

During the discussion, attendees will speak about the purpose of forming this coalition and receive information from other Missouri recovery coalitions.

“It is our hope to bring together the many organizations that are working to assist individuals who struggle with behavioral health disorders/substance use disorders within the Jefferson City community, to support one another in the work that we do, and to discuss potential gaps in services within our community,” according to a news release. “This coalition is also for people who may not be affiliated with an organization, but have a passion for helping these individuals. It is also for organizations that might not directly help, but come in contact with this population.”

Plans are for the new coalition to meet monthly to discuss the services that each of its agencies provide, the challenges it faces and ways in which members could partner together. It would then expand to bring in speakers on various topics, provide training in various areas and discuss funding opportunities.

People with questions are asked to call 573-635-3065 or contact Melanie Cobb, center director, at melanie@ landmarkrecoveryjcmo.com.
