Missouri American announces plans for infrastructure improvement projects

Officials with Missouri American Water announced Monday plans to improve their operations in Jefferson City.

Brent Hass, manager of operations of Missouri American Water Jefferson City, said they plan to invest more than $11.4 million to increase system resiliency. That’s up from the $6.6 million they spent last year.

They plan to replace more than 9,000 feet of water main throughout the city. The first portion will occur on Southwest Boulevard with more than 2,000 feet of main replaced, going from around the Swifts Highway area to Thompson Street, south of Stadium Boulevard. This project will extend to include east and west on Stadium as well. This work is expected to begin later this month or in early June.

Another 3,000 feet of main will be replaced in an area that includes Moreland Avenue, Eminence Drive, Rehagan Boulevard and Lansdowne Lane. Depending on how fast the Southwest project goes, the work on this project could begin this summer.

“There are a lot of factors in how long it will take to get these done,” Hass said. “Usually it’s a three- to four-month range depending on how much traffic there is in the area, how much rock has to be moved and the size of the project as well.”
