Printing of Monday’s edition delayed

A Sunday night breakdown of two machines that make the printing plates for the Jefferson City News Tribune press delayed the printing of the Monday edition by more than 12 hours.

Printing plates, which are thin sheets of metal in which the image of a newspaper page is printed, are attached to the drum of a printing press and the ink on the plate is offset onto a rubber drum and onto paper. The Sunday breakdowns prevented the creation of the printing plates.

Repairs were made to one of the platemaking machines Monday afternoon; a part for the second machine was expected today, said Gary Castor, managing editor of the Jefferson City News Tribune.

“Given that we could not physically print the paper Sunday night, we encouraged readers to use our digital editions on their desktops and smartphones Monday morning while repairs were being made on the machines,” Castor said. “The printed Monday edition will be delivered with the Tuesday edition.”
