Helias wins title at Tiger Pride Battle

WILLARD — The Helias Crusaders had four champions while claiming team honors Saturday at the Tiger Pride Battle at Willard High School.

Helias finished with 220.5 points to take the team title, Mid-Buchanan was second at 216, while Willard was third in the 16-team event with 159.5.

Winning individual titles for the Crusaders were:

• Carter Prenger at 120 pounds. Prenger was 5-0 in the tournament, winning his first four matches by fall. In the title match, he defeated Presley Johnson of Farmington 6-2.

• Jack Lage at 126. Lage was 5-0 on Saturday, winning all of his matches by fall. He won in 4:00 against Clancey Woodward of Mid-Buchanan in the title match.

• Carson Hayes at 138. Hayes finished 5-0, with two wins by fall. He defeated Noah Rogers of Willard 4-2 in the title match.

• Wyatt Forck at 152. Forck had three wins by fall in going 5-0 in the tournament. He defeated Drew Felker of Farmington 6-1 in the title match.

Three Crusaders finished second in their respective weights Saturday.

Jace Duemmel was 4-1 at 145, winning twice by fall. He fell 14-3 to Caleb Caldwell of Willard for the title.

Drake Perkins was 4-1, with all of his wins coming by fall, at 170. He lost by fall to Zach Kelley of Mid-Buchanan in the title match.

Michael Sanner was 3-1 with three wins by fall at 220. He lost by fall to Eric Tomanek of Marshfield in the title match.

Logan Montoya at 160 and Tanner Nappier at 195 were both third for Helias. Montoya finished 4-1 with two wins by fall and one by technical fall, while Nappier was 3-1 with three wins by fall.

Gage Lock was 2-3 to take fourth at 106, while Connor Wilbers was 1-3 to take fourth at 182. Jack Klebba was 3-2 with three wins by fall to finished fifth at 285. Justin Wieberg was 1-3 at 132, finishing seventh. The Crusaders were open at 113.

The Helias JV team had three wrestlers in the tournament. Aleksandr Careaga was 2-3 and finished sixth at 106. Aaron Klahr was 1-4 to finish eighth at 138. Alex Cook was 1-4 to take eighth at 285.

Helias is back in action Wednesday night when the Crusaders host the Jefferson City Jays in Central Missouri Activities Conference action at Rackers Fieldhouse. The JV dual will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity matches.

Prep Basketball Cancellations

The winter weather brought postponements to basketball games for area teams.

The Jefferson City Lady Jays and the Blair Oaks Lady Falcons were scheduled to play Saturday night for the title at the Union Tournament. No rescheduled date has been announced.

The Helias and Blair Oaks boys teams were slated to play in the Mid-Missouri Invitational at Harrisburg. Those games may be rescheduled.

Girls Basketball Fatima 30, New Haven 18

MOKANE — The Fatima Lady Comets won the South Callaway Tournament on Friday, defeating New Haven 30-18 in the title game.

Emma Bower led the Lady Comets with 15 points.

Fatima (11-5), which is receiving votes in Class 4, hosts Helias on Thursday.

Boys Basketball Eugene 69, Linn 41

EUGENE — The Eugene Eagles improved to 4-0 in ShowMe Conference play with Friday’s 69-41 win against Linn. Eugene led 41-18 at halftime. Caleb Walker led the Eagles with 29 points and 13 rebounds, while Tyler Renn had 16 points.

Eugene (15-0), ranked No. 1 Class 2, hosts Class 2 No. 10 Richland on Tuesday.

Linn (5-9, 0-1 Show-Me) plays Tuesday at Class 4 No. 2 Blair Oaks.
