Iberia edges Russellville

CALIFORNIA — The Iberia Lady Rangers scored multiple runs in three innings Saturday in a 9-7 victory against the Russellville Lady Indians in the Class 2 District 2 Tournament title game.

After both teams scored a run in the first, Iberia took the lead with a three-run top of the third. Russellville then scored single runs in the third and fourth to cut Iberia’s lead to 4-3.

Iberia plated three runs in the top of the fifth to extend its advantage to 7-3. Russellville answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-6.

Iberia scored twice in the top of the seventh before Russellville scored one in the bottom of the inning to make the final 9-7.

Iberia hit three home runs in the game, including two solo

shots from No. 9 hitter Acelun Bauer. Laney Halley hit the other for the Lady Rangers, one of her two hits. She drove in four runs in the game.

Claire Duenckel had three hits and two RBI to pace Russellville.

Cali Coombs and Trinity Riggs each scored two runs for the Lady Indians.

Cambell Backues went the distance in the circle for the Lady Indians, allowing six earned runs on nine hits and one walk. She recorded seven strikeouts. Russellville ends at 20-5. Iberia (19-6) will play Wednesday at District 1 champ Kelly (16-15) in the quarterfinals.

Cross Country Jefferson City at Invitational

ST. LOUIS — The Jefferson City Jays and Lady Jays each had a top-five finisher Saturday at the Hancock Invitational.

Tommy Roehl was third in the boys race for the Jays with a time of 16:34.2, while Ella Jobe was fifth in 20:30.3 for the Lady Jays in the girls race.

Bradyn Maupin was 59th for the Jays in 18:51.7, while Fabian Woodard-Sidney was 117th in 20:32.7. Trevor Dawson (122nd, 20:53.7) and Josh Conger (127th, 21:16.0) rounded out Jefferson City’s scorers. River Reeves was 128th in 21:16.9.

The Jays finished 16th in the 21-team event with 383 points. St. Louis University High was first with 55, while Lutheran: St. Charles was second with 77 and C.B.C. was third with 161.

On the girls side, Hayti Cooley of the Lady Jays was 21st in 21:17.4, while Makalya Cordes was 57th in 23:43.9. Riya Pattan was 79th in 25:28.2 to round out Jefferson City’s finishers. Adelaide Jones of Jefferson City was unable to finish the race due to an injury, so the Lady Jays did not post a team score.

John Burroughs was first in the girls team standings with 84 points. St. Dominic (90) and Lutheran South (98) rounded out the top three finishers in the 11-team field.

Calvary sweeps titles

SMITHTON — The Calvary Lutheran Lions and Lady Lions won the team titles Saturday at the Smithton Pumpkin Invitational.

Kyle Hagemeyer (17:13) and Jaxson Jobe (17:24) claimed the first two spots for Calvary in the boys race.

Lars Marion was seventh in 19:48 for the Lions, one spot better than teammate Alex Roettgen (19:565). Sam Schnitzler was 13th for the Lions in 20:41.

Maddie Homfeldt was second in 21:26 to lead the Calvary girls to their title.

Sonya Brunner (21:54) was third, while Kaleigh Kaiser (13th, 26:53), Sydney Morris (27:46) and Madelyn Goodson (19th, 28:25) rounded out the finishers for the Lady Lions.

Boys Soccer Jays in Shootout

The Jefferson City Jays dropped a pair of decisions in the Art Firley Shootout this weekend at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.

On Saturday, Jefferson City fell 5-2 to Marquette, the No. 14 team in the Class 4 power rankings.

On Friday, the Jays dropped a 4-2 decision to Kickapoo, the No. 9 team in the Class 4 power rankings.

Jefferson City (9-9) will play Wednesday at Glendale.
