Early deficit

Lincoln falls 59-7 at Pittsburg State

PITTSBURG, Kan. — The Pittsburg State Gorillas jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter Saturday on their way to a 59-7 victory against the Lincoln Blue Tigers in MIAA action.

The Gorillas added a field goal early in the second quarter to make it 24-0 before Lincoln found the end zone.

A 2-yard run by Hosea Franklin capped an 11-play, 75-yard drive and a PAT by Clayton Winkler cut Lincoln’s deficit to 24-7.

But Pittsburg State got that score back on its next drive to take a 31-7 lead into halftime.

The Gorillas then scored two touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters to make the final 59-7.

Franklin finished with 99 yards rushing, coming up just short of a fourth consecutive 100-yard game. Lincoln finished with 229 total yards, while Pittsburg State finished with 528. The Gorillas averaged 9.1 yards per play Saturday.

Lincoln has now allowed at least 49 points in each of its six games this season.

Pittsburg State is now 5-2. Lincoln (0-6) hits the road again next Saturday, going to No. 21 Nebraska-Kearney (6-1).
