Mr. Raymond John Herzing, 87, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, at Capital Region Medical Center.

Ray was born on Jan. 1, 1934, in Freeburg, a son of Joseph and Cunie (Hoffman) Herzing.

He was married on Sept. 27, 1958, in Freeburg to Betty Lou Paschal.

Ray was employed as a manager for Gerbes Supermarket for over 40 years. He enjoyed his work family and his loyal customers that he treated like friends.

Ray spent much of his time hunting, fishing, and hanging out at the deer camp. One of his favorite places to be was on the river and having family BBQs. He was a proud member of the National Rifle Association. He also enjoyed holiday decorating, gardening, playing cards, watching NASCAR, and going to the casino. He was built Ford tough, and always drove a Ford. Most of all, Ray loved spending time with his family and all the memories they made. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Betty; three daughters, Sheryl Miller (Steven), of Jefferson City, Kim Volmert (Jeff), of Wardsville, and Stacy Chiles (Bill), of Fulton; siblings, Daniel Herzing, of Vienna, LaVerne Russell (Donnie), of Argyle, and Delores Martin (Dave), of Jefferson City; five grandchildren, Jerad Miller, Justin Miller, Lindsey Duncan, Brendan Chiles, and Logan Chiles; seven great-grandchildren, Trent Miller, Devin Miller, Seth Miller, Pierce Miller, Brayleigh Miller, Koen Koch, and Kyler Duncan; and his four-legged companion, Daisy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lorraine Herzing; and brother, Leroy Herzing.

Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 18, 2021. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Monday in the Freeman Chapel with Deacon Ric Telthorst officiating. Graveside services will be at Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Missouri Humane Society or the American Heart Association.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
