Dance Mix is like Zumba and a little hip-hop. Instructor Leslie brings her experience of dancing as a professional cheerleader for the arena football league and 10 years of teaching dance to this class.

Fitness Fusion is a fusion of several different fitness disciplines. It combines Yoga, Pilates, Barre, weightlifting, etc. No two sessions will ever be the same.

Pilates is a fitness discipline that develops a strong core or “powerhouse” with emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment and breathing. It builds flexibility, endurance and muscle strength. It improves balance and circulation and reinforces musculature and correct posture. Combinations of basic and challenging exercises with variations using bands and stability ball. Instructor modifies for all levels of fitness.

Pound lets you become the music in this exhilarating full-body workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and Pilates-inspired movements. Using Ripstix, lightly weighted drumsticks engineered specifically for exercising, Pound transforms drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out. Designed for all fitness levels, Pound provides the perfect atmosphere for letting loose, getting energized, toning up and rocking out. The workout is easily modifiable, and the alternative vibe and welcoming philosophy appeals to men and women of all ages and abilities.

Step It Up is a class where participants do simple step choreography and strength training. The class is focused on enhancing your cardio and muscular endurance.

Tai Chi is a type of low-impact, weight-bearing, and aerobic — yet relaxing — exercise that began as a martial art. Practiced in a variety of styles, Tai Chi involves slow, gentle movements, deep breathing, and meditation. This exercise program is easy to follow for seniors and all fitness levels. Enjoy increased confidence and reduced stress, gain strength, flexibility, and balance as you experience Tai Chi.

Yoga offers more than 40 postures to improve both physical and mental well-being. All fitness levels are welcome.

Zumba allows you to take the “work” out of workout with this mix of high and low intensity calorie burning movements.

InBody results

The InBody will let you see what you’re made of. The full page results will help you find motivation to achieve your goals by reporting your individual composition (in pounds and percentage) of body fat, segmental muscle distribution, BMI and basal metabolic rate.

Swim lessons

The YMCA offers daytime and evening swimming lessons for all ages.

The YMCA uses the National YMCA Swim Program which stresses safety and skills. At each level, participants are involved in activities related to personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, rescue skills, personal growth and fitness.

Tennis

The YMCA offers a variety of lessons and leagues at the Firley YMCA multipurpose courts.

Kidz N Weights

Kidz N Weights is for YMCA members 11-14 years old.

Upon completion of this class, participants are certified to use the Knowles and Firley fitness centers. For more information, call 761-9000.

Pickleball

Pickleball is a paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong.

Open play is held Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m.-noon. Pickleball sents can be check out at the Firley welcome center.

Tennis lessons

Students will learn the basics of tennis including forehand, backhand, serve, volley and scoring.

Each participant must provide his/her own racquet and one unopened can of tennis balls.

Forever Fit

Forever Fit is geared toward active older adults who want to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Participants will have group exercise classes, taught by peers, Monday through Friday, focusing on strength, balance and flexibility.

A class schedule can be found at jcymca.org or at any YMCA facility.

Biannual fitness testing is offered to establish your current fitness level and to measure your improvements.

In addition, classes are offered at area churches including: Faith Lutheran Church, 2027 Industrial Drive; Trinity Lutheran Church, 803 Swifts Highway; Wesley United Methodist Church, 2727 Wesley St.; and Community Christian Church, 409 Ellis Blvd.

These classes meet for 45 minutes twice a week and incorporate strength, endurance, flexibility and balance into each class.

YMCA personal trainers are certified and experienced and can assist you in achieving your goals for weight loss, muscular strength, muscular endurance, more flexibility or an overall good feeling about yourself and your health.
